Preparing Your Mailbox for Winter
Information from the
Warren County Engineer's Office.
The Village of Maineville follows the same guidelines in
regards to repair of damaged mailboxes.
Lebanon, Ohio Each winter poses a
threat to your roadside mailbox either because of snow
drifts, vehicle incidents, or snowplow damage.
Neil F. Tunison, the Warren County Engineer, in
conjunction with local area US Postal Service would like
to encourage all residents of Warren County to take some
precautions this year in stabilizing their mailbox for
the winter season.
Residents are encouraged to inspect
their mailbox for any repairs it may need. For any
mailbox located by the road, there is risk of damage
caused by snow plows. Damage may also not be caused by
contact with snow plow but by heavy wet snow being
thrown off the plow. When inspecting your mailbox check
and repair any weaknesses you may see such as rotten
wood, deterioration, and/ or cracks in the post as well
as leaning of the mailbox.
Damage to mailboxes resulting from snow
plowing will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Mailboxes that are damaged by actual physical contact
with County equipment will be repaired at the County's
expense, but only if they were properly located and
installed. The mail box owner is responsible for repair
or replacement of the mailbox if the mailbox was damaged
by the pressure of the plowed snow and there was no
physical contact with the plow equipment. To find out
what the proper location of your mailbox is along the
road way, contact your local postmaster.
As you inspect your mailbox this is also
a good time to install reflectors that make your mailbox
easier to see during storms or during dark hours. Its a
good idea to also make sure your house number is visible
on your mailbox as this will assist mail carriers and
emergency crews.

76.045 PARKING DURING SNOW
EMERGENCY
(A) In order to
facilitate the cleaning of Village streets and to
expedite the free flow of vehicular traffic, motor
vehicles shall not be parked on any village street at
such times as the U.S. Weather Bureau records indicate
the two inches of snow has fallen and there is a
prospect of a further snowfall. All cars parked prior to
this time shall be removed by the owners or operators.
Any motor vehicle parked in violation of this
prohibition shall be removed at the order of the Mayor,
Village Administrator and/or Chief of Police and shall
subject the owner or operator to the fines provided
herein.
(B) It shall be the responsibility
of the owners or operators of motor vehicles to
ascertain whether weather conditions require the removal
of their motor vehicles from the streets and to remove
all cars parked in violation of the provisions set forth
in this section. While the Village shall make every
effort to inform the public of the existence of weather
conditions requiring removal of parked automobiles from

disseminating information as to the existence of weather
conditions requiring removal of parked motor vehicles
from the streets. Such notice shall be disseminated
through media outlets and all other available means to

ascertaining the existence of weather conditions
requiring the removal of parked motor vehicles from the
Village streets.
